This website is dedicated to the late Harvey J. Ridge, teacher, scientist, advisor, traveler, gardener, entrepreneur and public servant, without whose memories and photo albums this journey along the Yellowstone Trail would never have begun.
Dr. John Wm. and Alice Ann Ridge
After their retirement from 30 years of university teaching and administration, the Ridge’s searched out the location and history of the Yellowstone Trail.
Their interest had been piqued by family tales of travel in the 1920s on an automobile road which was marked across America by yellow rocks and black arrows.
Their search required several coast-to-coast exploratory trips, visits to archives, museums and private attics from Massachusetts to the State of Washington and additional trips to Florida and Washington, D.C.
Their effort led to many articles, presentations, books, and, the founding of the new Yellowstone Association including this website.
Thanks to the Ridge’s dedication and hard work, the Yellowstone Trail History will not be forgot!
